ST-Koneistus has Acquired the Product Rights for Kratos Hydraulic Pressure Transformers!

Pressure transformers are used to improve the efficiency of hydraulic force. For example, tractor-driven additional equipment, such as hooklifts, energy wood harvester heads, firewood processors, and other agricultural and forestry equipment manufacturers can enhance their operations with pressure transformers.

ST-Koneistus has been responsible for manufacturing Kratos devices for several years. Up until now, the production volume of the products has been approximately 200 pressure transformers per year. Now, the goal of ST-Koneistus is to increase the sales of pressure transformers by tenfold over the next five years.

Patented Speed+ and Power+ pressure transformers have been developed to solve two common problems with machines and devices using hydraulic cylinder technology:

• The volumetric flow rate of the fixed displacement pump is the same, whether or not the cylinder stroke requires force.
• The pressure level of the system does not allow the full potential of the cylinder to be utilized.

“Basically, the pressure transformer is comparable to an automatic transmission that changes the gear in the hydraulic system as needed, either up or down.”

Automatic transmission of the hydraulic system

In principle, the pressure transformer operates in the hydraulic system between the pump and the cylinder as a “gearbox” that controls the ratio between speed and force. A limit value can be set for the pressure transformer as it participates in the operation of the system.

For example, Speed+ increases the speed of the cylinder in light motion, but at the same time reduces its force. As the force requirement increases, the pressure transformer disconnects and restores the system to its original pressure level and volumetric flow rate.

Power+, in turn, utilizes the original pressure level and volumetric flow rate of the system until the force requirement exceeds the switching point. With Power+, the same cylinder can produce up to 1.4-2.2 times the force, depending on the cylinder.

Basically, the pressure transformer is comparable to an automatic transmission that changes the gear in the hydraulic system as needed, either up or down.
